Needles and syringes on private land

On private ground, including private houses and commercial properties, it is the responsibility of the occupier or owner to remove and dispose of discarded needles and syringes found on their property.

Disposing of other clinical waste

Dispose of as per instructions, usually by sealing in a container and returning to the supplier.

Do not place needles or syringes into any recycling or household waste container.

Other types of clinical waste may include:

  • human or animal body parts
  • human or animal bloods or other body fluids
  • excretion
  • drugs or other pharmaceutical products
  • any waste arising from: medical, nursing, dental, blood transfusion, veterinary, pharmaceutical or similar practice, investigation, treatment, care, teaching or research and which may cause infection.
