If you require a 180l bin for when bin collections move from weekly to fortnightly collections, you will be able request it online from the end of March 2025.
If you require a larger bin due to having a large family or you have medical needs, you will be able to apply for this online at the end of March 2025.
You can request a larger bin if:
- you live in the home full time (the property is not a second home or work away from home) and
five or more adults live in the property - there are four people in the household including children in nappies, for example one baby, one other child and two adults
- there are two babies and two adults in the property
- somebody in the household has a medical condition which produces a large amount of waste
Larger bins are not usually issued to the following types of household:
- a household with two adults and two older children
- if there are two adults and one baby
- if there are fewer than five people and no babies
The information supplied will only be used for the purpose of assessing waste arrangements; however, it may be cross-referenced with council records.
Applications are subject to continuous monitoring. If circumstances change for example when a baby is no longer in nappies or somebody leaves the property the bin size will revert back to the standard 120 litre refuse bin.
We are keen to promote sustainable household waste management. If it is found that recyclable material is not being recycled but placed in the general refuse bin, the larger bin may be removed.
