Your council tax band is based on your property's rateable value on April 1, 1991 - not on what is it worth today. Homes built after this date are given a council tax band by the Valuation Office Agency.
Your property is placed in one of eight valuation bands by the Listing Officer at the national Valuation Office Agency.
The bands are:
- Band A – Up to and including £40,000
- Band B - £40,001 - £52,000
- Band C - £52,001 - £68,000
- Band D - £68,001 - £88,000
- Band E - £88,001 - £120,000
- Band F - £120,001 - £160,000
- Band G - £160,001 - £320,000
- Band H – More than £320,000.
If you think your Council Tax band is wrong, you can contact the Valuation Office by email at ctonline@voa.gov.uk to explain why. You can also call the office on 0300 0501 501.
