Get support from the Family Community team

Supporting families with money and benefits, helping to plan and make choices around training and work.

The Family Community team, (previously called Supporting Families team), are strengthening how we work with families who need extra help to move forward. We want Cumberland to be a great place for children and young people to grow up in.

We do this by working closely in partnership with other services and agencies to jointly tackle all the different needs that are faced by the family as a whole. We call this the Think Family approach.

How we can help

Family Community work coaches offer a full welfare benefit health check to make sure that families are receiving all the benefits that they are entitled to. We can help improve financial stability for the family through work and training.

The Family Community team are the link between the Jobcentre and Cumberland Family Help. We can:

  • attend Team Around the Family meetings (TAFs)
  • carry out home visits alongside other professionals - reducing the need for families to visit the job centre as they are based within local community settings
  • meet with families in the Family Hubs
  • signpost to community food hubs and pantries, locally accessible grants and funding
  • signpost to services for families in need (including domestic abuse, poverty, SEND)
  • provide welfare assistance and guidance for professionals to share with service users
  • refer to training courses and work related support
