Homelessness and rough sleeping

We have a legal duty to offer support to people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.

You do not have to be sleeping on the streets or not have a roof over your head to be considered homeless.

We must prevent or relieve homelessness to all households who are homeless or do so within 56 days of them becoming homeless.

We must provide advice and carry out prevention work so that where possible, people can be supported to remain in their home.

The council must offer everyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness access to meaningful help, irrespective of their priority status, as long as they are eligible for assistance.
