What a membership includes
A library membership allows you to:
- access all libraries across Cumberland
- search and reserve items for collection
- use computer, printing and scanning facilities
- access our online catalogue of eBooks, audiobooks, newspapers and magazines
How to join and gain full library membership
Visit your local library to become a full member.
If you're aged 18 or over, you will need to provide identification of your name and current address which must be in Cumbria, for example - a driving licence, bank statement and give them to a Library Customer Assistant.
If you do not live in Cumbria but you do work in the county, please provide evidence of your Cumbrian employment instead, for example - a payslip, work contract.
The Library Customer Assistant will register you with full membership and provide you with your library card, PIN number or password and details of what is included in your library membership.
If you have provided an email address when you registered, you will receive an automated welcome email providing you with your membership number.
If you are aged between 0 and 17 years, you will not be required to provide identification to get full membership.
Renewing your membership
Your library membership will be renewed every 3 years. This is so we can check your personal information is up-to-date and that your data is protected under the general data protection regulations (GDPR).
How it works
You will be reminded by email to renew your membership before it expires.
If you have not provided an email address you will:
- get an alert on your online account
- be prompted when using a self-issue machine
- be alerted by library staff
After you have been reminded to renew your membership, you will need to confirm your personal details are correct by contacting your local library or emailing us.
