The Local Plan sets planning policies for the District against which planning applications will be assessed.

The City Council adopted the Carlisle District Local Plan 2015-2030 at its meeting on the 8 November 2016. The Local Plan sets planning policies for the District against which planning applications will be assessed. The Plan also allocates land for various uses, including housing development, across the District, setting out a strategic vision for growth over the next 15 years.

Hard copies of the Plan and Policy Map are available to purchase. Please contact the Policy Team [email protected]. Prices for these documents are as follows:

Local Plan document: £15 (+ £3 postage and packing if required)
Policies Maps: £30 (+ £1.5 postage and packing if required) 

Please note that there will be no charge for postage and packing if you are able to collect the documents from the Civic Centre in Carlisle.

Five year review of the Carlisle District Local Plan 2015-2030

The Council is required to commence a review its Local Plan fiver years after adoption. This process commenced in November 2021. The review has now been complete, and a full review statement is available to download below.
