Cumberland Council’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Service are hosting a series of drop in events within libraries over the coming months.

The sessions will provide anyone who cares for SEND children and young people with an opportunity to speak direct the service managers about SEND provision in the Cumberland Council area.

The first session will take place in Whitehaven Library on Monday 13 November, between 1.30pm and 3pm. The second session is scheduled to take place in Carlisle Library on 5 December between 1.30pm and 3pm. Additional locations will include in Workington, Keswick, Aspatria and Millom; these sessions will be in 2024 and confirmed dates will be announced on Cumberland Council’s social media channels.

The SEND Service are encouraging families to attend to provide their views, ask their questions, and offer suggestion on the future direction of SEND services in Cumberland.

Councillor Elaine Lynch, Cumberland Council Executive Member for Lifelong learning and Development, said;
“It is fantastic to offer families of SEND children and young people the opportunity to tell key service leaders their views in person. Family feedback is vital to ensure SEND services continue to operate with family priorities in mind, and I would encourage any parents, carers or families of SEND children and young people to attend these sessions to meet and speak with our service managers.”

Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said:
“Cumberland Council’s libraries will provide a comfortable and safe environment for parents, carers and families of SEND children and young people to discuss their views at these drop in events. This is a great example of our libraries providing an accessible community setting for residents to come together, share their views, and help to shape council services for the future.”
