Carlisle Southern Link Road project launches the CSLR Trust to support local community projects

CSLR Trust now accpeting applications

Cumberland Council is pleased to announce the launch of the CSLR Trust, a new community fund provided by Galliford Try Infrastructure, the principal contractor for the Carlisle Southern Link Road (CSLR) project. The CSLR Trust aims to support local community groups and organisations in and around Carlisle.

The CSLR Trust offers match-funded grants from a few hundred pounds to a couple of thousand pounds to help bring your community projects to life. The CSLR Trust offers match-funded grants, designed to empower projects that align with Cumberland Council’s core values - compassion, innovation, empowerment, ambition, and collaboration. 

Grants will cover up to 50% of the total project cost, requiring organisations to contribute match funding.

Who can apply:

  • Community groups and organisations based or operating in and around Carlisle.
  • Established before 2025.
  • Willing to match the funding provided by the CSLR Trust (e.g., £750 from your group matched by £750 from the CSLR Trust).

Key dates:

  • February 2025: CSLR Trust launches.
  • March 2025: Round 1 applications open.
  • 30 April 2025: Round 1 applications close.
  • 1 May 2025: Round 2 applications open.
  • 31 May 2025: Round 2 applications close.
  • June 2025: Shortlisting process.
  • End of June 2025: Successful applicants announced.

About the CSLR Project:

The Carlisle Southern Link Road is an 8km route connecting Junction 42 of the M6 to the A595 at Newby West. The project includes the construction of new junctions, bridges, and cycleways, enhancing connectivity and supporting the development of St Cuthbert’s Garden Village.
