
More than £45,000 of funding has been invested into projects in South Cumberland.
The South Cumberland Community Panel recently supported a number of schemes, including a play park upgrade, regalia for a veterans' club, and measures to protect a village car park.
- Waberthwaite and Corney Parish Council received £4,000 towards reinforcing the riverbank to protect Waberthwaite car park from flooding and erosion.
- Bootle Parish Council was awarded £7,000 towards creating a new section of pavement on the route between Bootle village and Bootle Station. This will mean people can travel safely, without having to walk on the road.
- Egremont Bowling Club was given £4,336 for new equipment including bowls for beginners and young people, facilities to host competitions, and equipment for short mat bowls.
- Citizens Advice Copeland received £7,500 to help train two new volunteers to deliver support in the community.
- Egremont Youth Partnership was awarded £3,332 towards IT equipment to help young people do homework, carry out research and apply for jobs or training.
- Cleator Moor Town Council was given £18,000 towards providing new play park equipment for younger children and disabled people at Prospect Row.
- Millom Veteran’s Breakfast Club received £1,355 towards a standard, pole and regalia to use at community parades and events.
- The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds was awarded £679 to put up signs making people aware of beach-nesting birds at Seascale.
Cllr Michael Eldon, Chair of South Cumberland Community Panel, said: "The panel was delighted to be able to support these great community projects. We are lucky to have such active third sector organisations and these investments will, I'm sure, improve lives of many people in their communities."
The South Cumberland Community Panel covers the wards of Gosforth, Millom, Millom Without, Cleator Moor East and Frizington, Cleator Moor West and Egremont.
