A course, designed to shine a light on the wide range of rewarding careers available in the public sector, was held earlier this month.
It showcased a fantastic employment support programme delivered by Inspira, in partnership with the Skills & Enterprise Partnership and Cumberland Council.
Participants discovered local opportunities in roles such as: Drivers, Gardeners, Highways Operatives & Waste Services Operatives.
The course also explored the key skills and qualities valued in public sector roles, including: problem solving, adaptability, cross-cultural awareness, emotional intelligence, diplomacy and reality testing.
Attendees received practical advice on navigating the recruitment process - from completing application forms to preparing for interviews and met staff from Cumberland Council’s Resourcing Team who shared their inspiring career journeys.
Cllr Elaine Lynch, Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Development said:
“It’s fantastic to see residents gaining new confidence and insight into the many rewarding careers our public sector offers. These opportunities don’t just provide employment - they help build stronger, more resilient communities across Cumberland.”
Participants learned about the many benefits of working in the public sector including Flexible working arrangements, training, learning & development, excellent pension scheme and health & wellbeing support.
Job matching support was also provided, helping attendees apply for roles with Cumberland Council.
One participant shared: “The course has inspired me to apply for a role within the public sector. The staff from Inspira and the council were very informative, kind and willing to help me develop my interpersonal skills.”
A huge thank you to Inspira and everyone involved in delivering this impactful programme. The public sector offers meaningful careers that make a real difference and we’re proud to help residents take their first steps into it.
