Organisers and partners of the Lakesman Triathlon are celebrating after the event was voted ‘the Best of the Best’ triathlon by Racecheck - a leading event review platform.
With more than 100,000 reviews contributing to the rankings, this recognition is a significant achievement for the popular local event.
Lakesman Triathlons, based in Keswick, has been a key fixture in the triathlon calendar since its inception in 2016. The event is a collaborative effort between Cumberland Council, Better, and local family-run business Lakesman Events Ltd., who all work together to deliver an unforgettable experience each year.
Lakesman Triathlons, based in Keswick, Cumbria, is to host the British Championships and English Championships in June 2025.
The event consists of a challenging yet scenic 1.2 mile (1.9km) swim in Derwentwater, a 56 mile (90km) bike ride through the stunning landscapes of West Lakes, and a well-supported, multi-lap half-marathon around Keswick. Attracting 1,000 athletes annually from across the UK and beyond, this latest accolate is expected to further boost its global appeal.
Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said:
“The Lakesman Triathlon has firmly established itself as one of the most popular endurance races in the UK and beyond, attracting athletes from all over the world to experience the stunning backdrop of Cumbria. Being voted the world’s best triathlon by Racecheck is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the dedication of the organisers, volunteers, and the entire community who make this event so special. I have no doubt it will continue to grow, inspiring even more participants”.
Marie Whitehead, Event Director added:
“We started this event in 2016 with the ethos of putting our athletes first, and this recognition is testament to that initial ambition. We are lucky to be able to stage a backdrop in the most beautiful location, with fabulous partners and local sponsors who support us every year.
“Our core team and volunteers share our passion for making this race the best possible experience it can be for everyone involved.
“We are delighted to receive this award, and this together with being selected to be host for the British and English championships, gives us a fabulous platform to showcase Cumberland as a perfect place to hold world class events.”
Unlike traditional awards, the Racecheck Awards are determined solely by participant feedback, making them one of the most respected recognitions in the industry. Events do not pay to be considered, and winners are decided on verified athlete reviews. This year, 205 events across 14 countries qualified recognition, highlighting Lakesman’s exceptional achievement on the global stage.
