Cumberland Council is delighted to announce the installation of a brand-new Signalised Puffin Pedestrian Crossing on the A597, Church Road/Main Road in Harrington, starting Sunday 26 October.
The crossing will provide a safer and easier way to cross this busy road, especially for schoolchildren and families, and directly responds to longstanding concerns raised by the local community.
Works will begin on Sunday 26 October and are scheduled to complete by Friday 7 November.
During this period:
- Temporary traffic signals will be in place
- A 10mph speed restriction will be enforced using convoy working
- Parking will not be permitted in the area of the works, residents are kindly asked to move their vehicles in advance
As part of the project, tactile paving will be installed, associated road markings added, and the junction at The Hollins will be reconfigured to create a tighter, safer turning radius.
Cllr Denise Rollo, Executive Member for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, said:
"We’re committed to making Cumberland’s streets safer and more accessible for everyone. This Signalised Puffin Pedestrian Crossing will make a real difference to families, children, and all those who walk through Harrington.
“Thank you to all the residents, businesses, and especially Beckstone Primary School for supporting this important improvement."
