Tree-mendous Changes Coming to Hammond’s Pond!

Cumberland Council is inviting residents to help shape the next exciting chapter for Hammond’s Pond, as part of the vibrant Start with the Park initiative.

Supported by £2.6 million from the Carlisle Town Deal, Start with the Park is transforming Carlisle’s green space, creating new walking and cycling routes, upgrading play facilities such as the newly completed Multi-use Games Area, and a skate park, improving footpaths and drainage, and enhancing connections to Eden Valley Hospice. These improvements will encourage healthier lifestyles, reduce carbon emissions, and make our public spaces more accessible and welcoming for everyone.

A key feature of the project is the planting of 300 new trees around the park, demonstrating our commitment to improving our green spaces, creating a healthier and more vibrant environment for everyone. The council is inviting the community to help choose which species should be planted, ensuring the park continues to reflect the people who know and love it best.

But it’s not just about sharing ideas, there will also be opportunities for residents to get involved in the tree planting itself. This is a fantastic chance to make a lasting impact and be part of something special. Further details will be shared soon.

Cumberland Councillor Anne Quilter, Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said

“Green spaces are vital to the health, wellbeing, and enjoyment of our communities. We want Hammond’s Pond to thrive for generations to come, and local involvement is key to making that happen.”

This project is a part of the council’s £100 million regeneration programme for Carlisle, supported by UK Government funding through the Future High Streets Fund, Town Deal, and Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal.
