Cumberland Libraries Support Mental Health Awareness Week with Community Taster Sessions

Mental health awareness week

Cumberland libraries are marking Mental Health Awareness Week by working with local social prescribing teams and community groups to offer free wellbeing taster sessions across libraries in West Cumberland.

Taking place from Monday 11 to Thursday 14 May, the sessions aim to highlight the role libraries play as welcoming, inclusive spaces that support mental wellbeing, social connection and community resilience. Residents are encouraged to drop in, take part and find out more about established groups already running in libraries.

Cumberland Councillor Anne Quilter, Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said:

“Libraries are much more than places to borrow books – they are safe, welcoming community spaces where people can connect, learn and feel supported. These Mental Health Awareness Week sessions are a great opportunity for residents to try something new, meet others and discover the wellbeing support available right on their doorstep.”

The sessions form part of the council’s wider commitment to supporting mental health and wellbeing through accessible, community‑based services and partnerships.

Mental Health Awareness Week is a national campaign that encourages people to reflect on their mental health and explore ways to improve wellbeing, connection and resilience.
