Cumberland Council is pleased to confirm that highway improvement works on the C4018 between Greendale Junction and Wasdale Head, one of the most scenic and popular destinations in the county, are now complete.
The scheme, which began on the evening of Wednesday 27 May, has delivered essential drainage improvements alongside resurfacing works to enhance road conditions along this well-used route.
The works were carried out under overnight closures to minimise disruption during the day and ensure they could be completed safely and efficiently.
As part of the scheme, double yellow lines will now be introduced to help prevent unsafe parking and ensure clear access for emergency vehicles along this narrow route.
Given the popularity of Wasdale Valley, visitors are being encouraged to plan ahead and consider using public transport where possible, including local bus services, to help reduce congestion and pressure on limited parking. Those travelling by car are asked to park considerately so that emergency services and other road users can always pass safely.

Visitors are also reminded to follow the Countryside Code to help protect the landscape and ensure everyone can enjoy the area responsibly.
These works formed part of Cumberland Council’s ongoing highway maintenance programme, helping to keep routes safe and accessible for residents, businesses and visitors.
Cumberland Council thanks everyone for their patience and co-operation while these improvements were carried out.
