Planned improvement works to pedestrian crossing on King Street, Wigton

Cumberland Council will be carrying out planned highway improvement works on King Street, Wigton, to repair and improve the pedestrian crossing. Which aims to improve road safety and accessibility for the local community.

The works are scheduled to begin on Monday 23 March 2026 and are expected to take five days, subject to weather and site conditions. Construction will take place between 8am and 4pm each day.

To ensure the safety of both the workforce and members of the public, the works will be carried out under a full road closure for the duration of the scheme. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout the works.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, although short delays may occur when vehicles and plant are being moved. Cumberland Council recognises the importance of supporting local businesses, and the loading bay on King Street will remain clear and available at all times to allow for deliveries.

Cumberland Council understands that this work may cause some disruption and would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience. Every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience during the works.

Bus operators Stagecoach and Reays will provide updated information on affected stops and routes through Wigton closer to the start date.
