Residents and businesses are being encouraged to have their say on the next phase of the Connected Cleator Moor project.
Part of the Cleator Moor Town Deal, the design proposals will soon be shared with the community.
Cumberland Council has recently appointed WSP to develop the detailed designs for the project, which aims to better connect Cleator Moor to employment, education and healthcare opportunities beyond the town. The plans also aim to enhance the town’s character, supporting its ambition to be seen as an attractive and forward-looking place to live, work and visit.
As part of the proposals, several locations across Cleator Moor have been identified as priorities for investment, helping to make it easier and safer for people to travel around the town and connect to wider destinations.
They are:
- Mill Hill to the Leconfield Industrial Estate.
- Leconfield Industrial Estate to Birks Road.
- Town Square frontage.
- Aldby Grove to the east of Wath Brow Junction.
- Market Square to Cleator Mills link.
- Leconfield to Activity Centre link.
- Leconfield Industrial Estate links.
To give residents an opportunity to review the proposals and provide feedback, a public engagement event will be held at Cleator Moor Civic Hall on Tuesday 14 July, between 4pm and 7pm.
Attendees will be able to view the latest designs and speak directly with members of the project team.
Cllr Mark Fryer, Leader of Cumberland Council, said: “The Connected Cleator Moor project is a key part of the Cleator Moor Town Deal and reflects our commitment to improving connectivity and opportunity for local people.
“It is important that the community has the chance to shape these plans, and I would encourage anyone with an interest in Cleator Moor to come along to the consultation event and share their views.”
Bob Metcalfe, Chair of the Cleator Moor Town Deal Board added:
“This project is an important step in delivering the ambitions set out in the Town Deal. Improving connections across Cleator Moor will help link people more easily to opportunities and services, while also strengthening the town’s appeal. It’s vital that these plans reflect the needs of the community, so we’d really encourage residents and businesses to come along, view the designs and share their feedback.”
The feedback gathered at the event will help to inform the final designs as the project progresses. Anyone interested in the future of Cleator Moor is encouraged to attend and share their views.
