Cumberland Council is set to carry out carriageway resurfacing works on the B5299 at Hodden Croft, Caldbeck, as part of its ongoing investment in maintaining and improving the local highway network.

The works form part of Cumberland Council's wider £27.3 million investment in highways for 2026/27, including £2.85 million dedicated to residential and rural roads, supporting improvements across the network.

The works will begin on Monday 20 July 2026 and is expected to take up to five days to complete, subject to weather and site conditions.

To allow the works to be carried out safely, a road closure will be in place for the duration of the scheme.

The resurfacing programme is designed to improve the condition of the carriageway, helping to provide safer and smoother journeys for residents, businesses and visitors using the route.

During the works:

  • Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists will continue to have access through the site and will be escorted safely through the working area by traffic marshals where required.
  • Waste and recycling collections will continue as normal.

Cumberland Council would like to thank residents and road users for their patience and understanding while these essential improvements are carried out and apologises for any temporary disruption caused.

Residents can check live and planned roadworks, closures and traffic updates using one.network, to help plan journeys.
