Summer roadworks update – key dates for your diary across West Cumbria

Road Patching

Cumberland Council is advising residents and road users of a series of planned road closures on the A595 and A5086 to allow remedial carriageway repairs to be carried out.

The remedial works are being carried out at the contractor's expense following issues identified with the original works, ensuring there is no cost to Cumberland residents. Once complete, they will help maintain the condition of the road network, improve safety and provide smoother journeys for all users. Where possible, works have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption.

Works started this week and will run until Saturday 29 August.

During overnight works, vehicles will be able to pass through using a convoy system between 8.00pm and 10.00pm, although delays of up to 30 minutes may occur. Full road closures will then be in place from 10.00pm to 5.00am.

During daytime works, each section will be carried out using either traffic management or, where necessary, full road closures (see below for details).

Diversion routes will be clearly signed, and access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Karl Melville, Cumberland Council’s Assistant Director for Highways & Transport, said:

“When issues are identified with highway works, it is important that they are put right. These remedial works are being carried out at the contractor’s expense, ensuring there is no additional cost to Cumberland residents.

“The repairs will help maintain the long-term condition of the network, improve safety and provide smoother journeys for everyone who uses these roads.

“We have planned the programme carefully to minimise disruption wherever possible, including carrying out much of the work overnight, and we thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience while these improvements are completed.”

The council recognises that this work may cause temporary disruption and would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their understanding.
