Orgill English Hub is looking to appoint a passionate and experienced educator to the role of Deputy English Hub Lead. Based at Orgill Primary School in Egremont, with opportunities for remote working, you will play a key part in supporting schools across the region to improve early reading and phonics provision.

Orgill Primary School has been designated as one of 34 English Hubs across England.  This network of some of the best performing primary schools has been set up to improve reading standards across the country and improve educational outcomes for the most disadvantaged children.

The Deputy English Hub Lead will be at the heart of our English Hub.  They will benefit from a National Teaching Programme in order to further develop their expertise in teaching early language and reading in Reception and Key Stage 1.  They will provide intensive support to schools across the next academic year, have the opportunity to develop and deliver Showcase and Medium Level Support Events at Orgill.  

This is an exciting opportunity for ambitious, enthusiastic teachers who strive to impact upon the lives of children in Cumbria and Lancashire.  The role is initially for the academic year 2025-26 but may continue if the DfE commit to extending funding for the Hub programme.

The Deputy Hub Lead will have the opportunity to work closely with a national provider, the English Hub team and the national and local communities of Literacy Specialists.

Key Responsibilities:
•    Support partner schools in your role as a Literacy Specialist

•    Carry out detailed phonics audits in primary and infant schools

•    Deliver remote training sessions in early reading and systematic synthetic phonics

•    Collaborate with English Hub leadership to ensure high-quality, evidence-based support is delivered across the region

About You:
•    A qualified and experienced teacher with a strong background in teaching phonics

•    Proven experience leading early reading and phonics in a primary or infant school

•    Excellent communication and coaching skills, with the ability to support and challenge schools positively

•    A strong commitment to raising standards in early literacy
