Are you a Newly Qualified Teacher looking for your first teaching post or an established teacher looking for a new challenge? Our award-winning team seek to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and inspirational specialist Teacher of Science. The suitable candidate will have a good track record of excellent classroom practice and sustained experience in achieving positive outcomes and exceptional progress for students.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach GCSE Combined Science: Synergy, Level 3.  Applied Science and also cross-curricular support for some elements of the T Level provision.    At Energy Coast UTC our intent is to deliver academic excellence alongside a world class technical and skills based practical education, ensuring our students also excel in employability skills and work directly with employers on a range of projects.

Our 14-19 college, located on the edge of the Lake District National Park in an area of outstanding natural beauty, is a thriving educational setting which has nurtured partnerships between industry and education. We prepare students to meet the demand for highly skilled engineers and civil engineers in Cumbria and the world.  

Our industry partners who work on a range of projects alongside our students include the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Sellafield Ltd, Morgan Sindall, the University of Cumbria, McMenon and the Royal Navy.

Introduction 
The Energy Coast UTC, a college for 14-19 year olds, directly engages with local employers to provide exciting and relevant curriculum and enrichment opportunities for all students. This is a rare opportunity to work in an outstanding school, located on the edge of the Lake District National Park in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Overall Purpose Of Job 
To be an outstanding teacher and tutor who challenges and supports all your students to do their best and achieve their potential by:

•    Developing and delivering exciting and engaging projects which reflect the best modern engineering practices.
•    Taking positive action to improve the quality of your students’ learning.
•    Ensuring good student outcomes.

Duties And Responsibilities 
•    As a subject teacher, maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the teaching of your subject and take account of wider curriculum developments, which are relevant to your work.
•    Teach students according to their particular needs, including the planning, differentiation, preparation and assessment of work in line with the policies of the UTC. 
•    Assist in the smooth delivery of your subject area at the UTC as directed by the Head of Department.
•    Implement and maintain good classroom management and follow UTC policies for behaviour management.
•    Plan lessons and sequences of lessons to meet students’ individual learning needs.
•    Use a range of appropriate strategies and follow UTC policies for tutoring, teaching and behaviour management.
•    Assess, monitor and record the progress of students in your teaching and tutorial groups; give them constructive feedback, targets and advice; and report their progress to, and discuss their progress with, their parents/carers.    
•    Ensure that, as a result of your teaching, your students achieve well relative to their prior attainment, making progress as good as or better than similar students nationally.
•    Within the framework of the UTC’s Performance Management and CPD policies, take responsibility for your own professional development and use the outcomes to improve your tutoring and teaching and your students’ learning.
•    Make an active contribution to the policies, aspirations and plans of your year, your curriculum/student performance team and the UTC.
•    Lead a subject specific enrichment activity which will be timetabled in to the curriculum.
•    Contribute to extra-curricular activities. 
•    As a form tutor provide pastoral support for a group of students.

Other Specific Duties 
•    Continue personal professional development as required.  
•    Understand the implications of the Freedom of Information Act and the Data Protection Act and other legislation to ensure confidentiality of records and information is maintained.
•    Attend staff and other meetings and participate in staff training and development events as required.  
•    Actively engage in the performance review process.  
•    Adhere to the UTC’s policies and procedures with particular reference to Child Protection, Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety.  
•    Lead by example and set a professional tone for behaviour, both as a role model and by supporting the culture of mutual respect between students and colleagues.  
•    Understand the safeguarding requirements of the UTC and ensure compliance with the policy.  

The person undertaking this role is expected to work within the policies, ethos and aims of the UTC, to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Principal, and to play a full part in the life of the UTC supporting its distinctive mission and encouraging staff and students to do the same.
