The Carlisle Southern Link Road (CSLR) is now complete and open to traffic.
This major infrastructure project is a significant investment in Cumberland's transport network. It improves connections across Carlisle, reduces congestion on local roads, supports future housing and economic growth, and provides new walking and cycling routes.
The project was delivered through close collaboration with partners, contractors, stakeholders and local communities.
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities provided £212 million towards the project. Cumberland Council contributed £13.4 million, including £3.4 million from the sale of council-owned land for the development of St Cuthbert's Garden Village.

Placemaking report
The Carlisle Southern Link Road Placemaking Report explains how the project was designed to celebrate and strengthen the area's landscape and local character.
