Cycling and walking path development

We have plans to develop safe and direct routes to encourage more people to walk and cycle.

It is our ambition to get more people cycling and walking in Cumbria so that cycling and walking is the natural choice for everyday short journeys.

Cycling and walking more often is good for our health and wellbeing, the environment and the local economy.

We have established a Cycling and Walking programme to identify, develop and secure funding to deliver infrastructure improvements.

A key part of this programme is the development of Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans which identify and prioritise future improvements to the cycling and walking network between 2022 and 2037.

Plans have been developed in Barrow in Furness, Carlisle, Kendal, Workington, Whitehaven and Penrith.

You can read consultation reports into the various plans.
