Carlisle City Centre Conservation Area was designated in 1986, in recognition of being 'an area of special architectural or historic interest'. Conservation Area designation is a way to protect the individual buildings, the open spaces and landscape features of these areas and is used by the council when it assesses planning applications. New development is expected to fit with the character of the Conservation Area.
We are reviewing the existing Conservation Area and producing a Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan (CAAMP). A draft CAAMP has been prepared by consultants Cultura Trust (Formerly the North of England Civic Trust) and Donald Insall Associates. While this has already been prepared with input from a variety of business and public organisations, we would like to get feedback from you on the emerging draft document.
The consultation will run from Monday 8 September to Monday 20 October 2025.
How to have your say and get involved
We will be hosting a public consultation event at 6pm on Wednesday 10 September at the Old Town Hall, Greenmarket, Carlisle. Refreshments will be provided. There is no need to book and this a free event.
You can also use the online feedback form which will be available from Monday 8 September.
