The Register consists of two parts.
Part one
Part one seeks to establish a list of sites that the council considers to be suitable, available and viable for potential residential development. This should not be seen as a guarantee of planning permission however. Sites on Part one of the Register can be viewed on the interactive map. Only sites above the nationally set threshold of 0.25Ha will be considered for inclusion on the register unless special circumstances dictate otherwise.
Part two
Part two is a list of sites on which the council wishes to apply 'Permission in Principle'. Permission in principle is essentially an outline planning permission the Council grants on a suitable site which is considers has the potential to be delivered within five years. Any interested developers will subsequently only need to apply for permission for outstanding matters on the site, thus hopefully stream lining the planning process.
Sites on the Register cover the whole of the Cumberland Planning authority area (for example - those parts of the council area outside of the Lake District National Park).
There are currently no suitable sites on Part two of the Register. This will be reviewed in the next update.
