Community governance review

Reviews provide an opportunity to look at and make changes to governance arrangements for town and parish councils and parish areas.

Community governance review (CGR) provide the opportunity to review and make changes to governance within a specified area.

Town and parish councils and residents of the community can request a review via a petition.

Reviews could look at:

  • boundaries
  • the number of councillors
  • the creation of a parish council
  • whether one council should merge with another

Considering reviews

They are usually carried out by a working group of councillors for the relevant area.

The group makes a recommendation which is voted on. The final decision is made by Cumberland Council.
