The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) sets out that local planning authorities should:
- publish a local validation list for planning applications
- review it at least every 2 years
Consultation on our local validation checklist
As part of our review, we have:
- updated our local validation checklists
- produced a validation guide
We are now consulting on this and ask you to let us know your thoughts and opinions on our local validation checklist.
Local validation requirements set out the information required when submitting your planning application to us. Our planning validation checklist has three components:
- Part 1 sets out the mandatory national information requirements that are required in order to validate an application
- Part 2 sets out additional information (the “Local List”) that we require in order to validate an application
- Part 3 sets out information (the “Local List”) in relation to Minerals and Waste in order to validate an application

Any comments should be sent to planning1@cumberland.gov.uk with the subject title 'Local Validation Checklist Consultation Comments'.
The deadline for responses is Friday 9 May 2025.
We will consider comments received and produce a final report setting out our responses. We will then publish an updated local validation checklist in May 2025.
