Lord Lieutenant

The Lord Lieutenant is His Majesty The King's representative in Cumbria.

The main duties of the Lord-Lieutenant are:

  • To arrange Royal Visits to Cumbria
  • To oversee local nominations for The King's Award for Voluntary Service and for attendance at Royal Garden Parties, and to represent The King in presenting certain Medals and Awards (including The King's Award for Enterprise)
  • To validate local Honours Nominations
  • To present medals and awards on behalf of His Majesty
  • To lead the local magistracy as Chairman of the Cumbria Advisory Committee on the Appointment of Justices for the Peace
  • To liaise and support local units of the Armed Forces, their veteran associations and their Cadet Forces
  • To participate in civic, voluntary and social activities
