Air quality

We are committed to maintaining good air quality for good health and will continue to pursue further improvements where possible.

Poor air quality can affect all areas of our lives, including our health, the buildings we live and work in, and our surrounding environment.

Those most at risk from poor air quality are the young, the elderly and those with a pre-existing lung or heart condition.

We work to reduce air pollution by encouraging cleaner ways to travel, reducing the impact of new developments at the planning stage, investigating complaints of air pollution, and regulating permitted processes.

Emissions to air from industry are regulated under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Clean Air acts.
