If your business manufactures or processes food that is not sold directly to the final consumer, you may need approval before you start trading.
This applies to businesses handling:
- meat
- fish and shellfish
- dairy
- egg and egg products
Approval
Approval may be required from us or the Food Standards Agency (FSA) for higher risk premises.
You will need approval from us if your business:
- manufactures or processes food from meat, fish, diary or eggs
- supplies other businesses, not the final consumer
Complete the food premises approval for new businesses or to change an approval.
Food Standards Agency
Businesses that handle fresh meat will need approval by the FSA, including:
- slaughter houses (fresh red meat and poultry)
- cutting plants
- farmed and wild game handling establishments
More details can be found on the Food Standards Agency website.
