Setting up a Direct Debit for your Council Tax is the easiest way to pay your bill.

How to set up your Direct Debit

We offer a choice of four dates each month these are the:

  • 1st
  • 8th
  • 15th
  • 22nd

You can also ask to pay over 12 months instead of 10, or however many months remain in the year.

You are also protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee, which promises that you will get your money back straight away if anything goes wrong.

There are different ways to set up a Direct Debit depending on the area you live in:

Set up a Direct Debit if you live in the Allerdale area

Set up a Direct Debit if you live in the Carlisle area

Set up a Direct Debit if you live in the Copeland area

If you have Council Tax arrears

We will set instalments dividing the total balance outstanding by the number of remaining months in the financial year.

If you have difficulties paying your bill

If you are unable to set up a Direct Debit there are other ways you can pay your Council Tax bill.

Pay online

To pay online you will need your:

  • Council Tax reference number
  • Debit card or credit card

Pay at the Post Office or a PayPoint

You can pay bills at any Post Office or a PayPoint outlet by using the barcode on your bill.
