Universal Credit – Budgeting Advance for Unexpected Costs

Provides interest‑free Budgeting Advance loans to help Universal Credit claimants cover one‑off essential costs, such as household items, furniture, home repairs, clothing, funeral expenses, or moving costs. You can borrow £100 up to £348 (single), £464 (couple), or £812 (with children) depending on your circumstances. Repayments are automatically taken from future Universal Credit payments, usually over 24 months. Eligibility includes receiving Universal Credit (or certain other benefits) for at least 6 months, having earnings below set limits, and not having an outstanding Budgeting Advance. Apply via your online Universal Credit Journal, work coach, or the Universal Credit helpline.
