Borrow digital books, audiobooks and magazines
Your library membership gives you free access to BorrowBox. You can borrow and download digital titles to your phone, tablet or computer.
You will need your library membership number and password.
You can:
- borrow fiction and non-fiction eBooks and audiobooks
- read children's and young adult titles
- access newspapers and magazines (ePress)
Get started
There are 2 ways to use BorrowBox:
- use the app on your phone, tablet or Kindle Fire
- sign in through the BorrowBox website
Use BorrowBox on a phone or tablet
- Download BorrowBox from the App Store (Apple iOS), Google Play Store (Android) or Amazon App Store (Kindle Fire)
- Open the app and search for Cumberland and Westmorland & Furness Libraries
- Sign in with your library membership number and password
- Accept the terms and conditions to start using the service
Use BorrowBox on a computer
Sign in using the Cumberland BorrowBox website.
Enter your library membership number and password to browse, borrow, download and reserve titles.
Use BorrowBox on multiple devices
You can sign in on more than one device. Your reading or listening progress usually syncs automatically.
Change reading and listening settings
You can customise your settings by:
- changing font size, style and line spacing for eBooks
- adjust playback speed for audiobooks
Find and borrow titles
You can browse through categories or search for:
- eBooks
- audiobooks
- ePress collections
Select a title and choose Borrow. The title will appear in My Loans on the homepage.
If a title is not available, choose Reserve to join the waiting list. You will be notified when it becomes available.
Downloaded titles can be used offline.
Loan limits
You can have:
- 6 eBooks
- 6 audiobooks
- up to 20 ePress items
Loan periods and renewals
Loans last for 3 weeks.
You can renew a title for another 3 weeks if it is still available.
Items return automatically at the end of the loan period. There are no late fees.
Return items early
You can return items early from My Loans.
Accessibility
BorrowBox supports screen readers such as VoiceOver (iOS) and TalkBack (Android).
You can also adjust display settings to improve readability.

- make sure your library membership is active
- check your internet connection
