Newtown Road drainage improvement works have been completed a week ahead of schedule by Cumberland Council.

Improvement works started on Monday (17 July) with a planned completion date of Friday 28 July.  After bringing in additional resources the team has been able to complete the works a week early and it will now be completed today (Friday 21 July).

The road will be open and fully accessible from 4pm today.

Councillor Denise Rollo, Cumberland Council’s Executive Portfolio Holder for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, said:

“This is fantastic news, completing the drainage works on Newtown Road a week ahead of schedule is a significant accomplishment. Finishing a project ahead of time not only reflects the efficiency and dedication of the Highways team involved but also brings numerous benefits to the community.

“Early completion means less disruption to the residents and businesses in the area, as they can resume their normal activities sooner than expected.

“I would like to thank the residents and business owners for their patience and invaluable support throughout these improvements. Without their backing, achieving the early completion of this project would not have been possible. I want to especially thank them for their exceptional support during the final 24 hours, which played a significant role in our success.”
