Opening hours for Cumberland Council services over Easter weekend

Cumberland Council will continue to provide key services over the Easter period, but some of its offices – will be closed on Good Friday, 7 April and Easter Monday, 10 April 2023.

The main switchboard number (0300 373 3730) will close at 5pm on Thursday 6 April and reopen on Tuesday 11 April at 9am. There will be a recorded message out of hours advising of the closure period and contact numbers for Highways, Homelessness, Adults and Children’s Social Care should anyone be calling about an emergency.  Our website, Cumberland.gov.uk will have all the key information listed.

Here are details of opening times, out of hours contacts and other relevant information:

Health and Social Care:
Residential and home care services operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Adult Social Care offices will be closed on Good Friday - 7 April and reopen on Tuesday 10 April.

When offices are closed, the social care out of hours emergency service on 01228 526690 - this can be used 24-hours a day for adult social care emergencies.  You can also find our contact numbers on the website.
 Children's Services (for children's social care):

The children's services offices will be closed on Good Friday - 7 April and reopen on Tuesday 10 April.

During closure periods, the Emergency Duty Team can be contacted 24 hours a day for children’s social care emergencies on 0333 240 1727.

Homeless:

If you are at risk of eviction or homelessness or need support with domestic abuse you can find information and support by visiting cumberland.gov.uk or by calling 0300 373 3730.

Recycling:

Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) will all be open as usual throughout the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and standard opening hours will not be affected by the Bank Holidays.  Opening hours are as follows:

  • Carlisle, Bousteads Grassing - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.
  • Brampton, Townfoot Industrial Estate - 10am - 6pm every day except Tuesday
  • Frizington, Yeathouse Quarry - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.
  • Maryport, Glasson Industrial Estate - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.
  • Millom, Redhills - 8am - 4pm, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday.
  • Wigton, Syke Park - 8am - 6pm, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday.
  • Workington, Clay Flatts - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.

The HWRC permit helpline will be closed on bank holidays and weekends.

Household Recycling and Waste Collections:

Carlisle and Allerdale area - Bins due to be collected on Friday 7 April, will be collected as normal; however, there will no collections on Easter Monday, 10 April, and bins will be collected one day later throughout the week (Tuesday 11 to Saturday 15 April). Collections will return to normal from Monday 17 April onwards.

Copeland area - There will be no change to household recycling and waste collections that are scheduled for Friday 7 and Monday 10 April.

Cumberland Highways:

The Highways Hotline number (0300 373 3736) will not be monitored between Friday 7 and Monday 10 April and will be diverted to an answer phone service with emergency out of hours contact information.

People can still report problems with potholes, road damage, flooding and drainage, traffic lights, streetlights, pedestrian crossings, trees, vegetation, bollards, manhole covers and more by visiting cumberland.gov.uk

Archives, Libraries and Local Link offices:

The Archive Centres (Carlisle and Whitehaven) and all libraries will be closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, and normal opening hours will apply on Saturday 8 April.

Registration Services:

The Registration Service will be closed on Friday 7 April and will reopen on Tuesday 11 April.

Trading Standards

Cumbria Trading Standards’ Consumer Direct helpline (08454 04 05 06) will be closed on Friday 7 April and will reopen on Tuesday 11 April.Leisure Centres
