Programme announced for Upperby Gala

Preparations are underway for bank holiday Monday’s Upperby Gala in Hammond’s Pond, Carlisle.

Organised by Cumberland Council and supported by the Friends of Hammond’s Pond Group, Upperby Gala will provide free fun for all the family on Monday 29 May, between 1pm and 4pm.

The popular community gala will include a packed programme of activities. The timetable is as follows:

1pm                Official opening by the Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr Abdul Harid.

1.05pm           Savage Skills Stunt Team.

1.25pm           Studio A Dance Company.

1.40pm           Bjamba Band.

1.55pm           Savage Skills Stunt Team.

2.15pm          Border City Dance Works.

2.30pm          Savage Skills Stunt Team.

2.50pm          Studio A Dance Company.

3.05pm          Bjamba Band.

3.20pm          Border City Dance Works.

3.35pm          Savage Skills Stunt Team.

All timings are approximate and are subject to change.

This year’s programme will also include hands on activities from Carlisle College and Tullie House. Local charity stalls will also be in place and there will be a chance to sample sports and exercise activities.

Other activities include children’s entertainers, a fun fair, an owl magic display, a model railway, archery, face painters, balloon modelling, plus community outreach from Cumbria Police and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.

The Upperby Gala has free admission. Food stalls will be providing refreshments throughout the event, plus Hammond’s Pond Café will also be open throughout the day.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Hammond’s Pond being gifted by Archie Hammond to the local community.

Hammond's Pond is in the south of Carlisle. There is vehicular access and free parking from the park entrance off Blackwell Road. Vehicular access and parking at the Buchanan Road entrance is restricted to vehicles with permits/disabled access only.

Pedestrian access is from Blackwell Road, Buchanan Road, Henderson Road and Scalegate Road.
