Town and parish council election results

RESIDENTS have elected 101 councillors to town and parish councils in Cumberland. 

Elections were held yesterday [Thursday 4 May 2023], and counts took place on the day in Carlisle and Whitehaven, and today [Friday 5 May 2023] in Workington. 

Where town and parish councils were uncontested, no elections were held.  

Successful candidates, with the number of votes, were elected in the following wards: 

Cockermouth, All Saints (four seats) - Isabel Burns (Lab) 546; David Malloy (Ind) 470; Chris Bridgman (Lab) 456; James Samson (Lab) 446. Turnout 34.11% 

Cockermouth, Christchurch (three seats) - Julie Laidlow (Lab) 440; Catherine Bell – 380; Helen Tucker (Lab) 362. Turnout: 36.62% 

Cockermouth, Double Mills (two seats) - Stephen Barnes (Lib Dem) 207; Marion Bowman (Lab) 167. Turnout: 45.92% 

Cockermouth, Fitz Ward (one seat) - Gillian Telford (Lab) 115. Turnout: 40.04% 

Cockermouth, South Lodge (two seats) - Richard Watson (Lab) 373; Howard Beanland (Lab) 366. Turnout: 39.63% 

Dean (12 seats) - Keith Tomas – 249; Tim Chittenden – 242; William Agnew – 216; Thomas Scott – 215; Ross Hayman – 209; Anthony Worsley – 195; Valerie Pallister – 182; Ian Haslam – 173; Sue Holmes – 164; Barry Johnson – 152; Gillian Moore – 148; Jeffrey Ferguson – 140. Turnout: 44.52% 

Ennerdale and Kinniside (eight seats) - Judith Guise - 103, Richard Maxwell - 115, Richard Outhwaite - 96, Steve Parker - 91, Nancy Rowson - 105, Paul Rowson - 83, Julian Thursz - 106, Beth Wright - 110. Turnout: 62.41 per cent.  

Ireby and Uldale (eight seats) - James Hall 114; Robert Cockburn 108; Gordon Moore 106; Paul Crooks 105; Anne Forrest 103; Elspeth Alexander 98; Keith Bridges 96; Jonathan Logan 83. Turnout: 45.22% 

Keswick East (seven seats) - Sally Lansbury (Lab) 440; Steve Harwood (Ind) 412; Lorraine Taylor (Lab) 409; Jean Murray (Lab) 386; Louise Dunn (Ind) 279; Adam Paxon (Ind) 239; Tim Parsons - 211. Turnout: 32.04% 

Maryport (Netherhall) (four seats) - Iain Greaney (Ind) 264; George Kemp (Ind) 247; Bill Pegram (Lab) 245; John Newton (Lab) 244. Turnout 23.85% 

Nicholforest (eight seats) - Charles Dunn (Ind) 59; David Hammond - 56; Kate Ireland - 52; Timothy Pickstone - 86; Thomas Robinson - 69; John Sisson - 62; Elaine Smith (Local Farmer) 54; Allan Williamson (Working for you in the community) 48. Turnout: 40.14%. 

Silloth on Solway (12 seats) - Owen Martin - 479; Melanie Irving - 391; Tony Markley - 363; John Cook - 334; Colin Baty - 324; Lucy Winter - 318; Joe Scott - 292; Angus Emmerson - 263; Bill Jefferson - 237; Mark Orchard - 236; Andrew Reynolds - 200; Charles Searle - 200. Turnout 29.94% 

Whitehaven, Corkickle South (one seat) - Robert White (Lab) 180. Turnout: 24.1%. 

Whitehaven, Hillcrest, (one seat) - Ryan Taylor (Ind) 669. Turnout: 24.04%. 

Whitehaven, Kells (one seat): Chris Hayes - 210. Turnout: 20.95%. 

Whitehaven, Sneckyeat North (one seat): Ryan Redmond (Ind) 47. Turnout: 26.97%. 

Whitehaven, Sneckyeat South (one seat): Ray Gill (Lab) 241. Turnout: 23.81%. 

Workington, Harrington, three seats – Hilary Harrington (Ind) 371; Paul Larkin (Cons) 323; Nath Martin (Lab) 304. Turnout: 27.97% 

Workington, Moorclose, three seats – Stephen Stoddart (Ind) 313; Lynda Williams (Ind) 251; Joan Wright (Lab) 205. Turnout: 21.39% 

Workington, Northside, one seat - Beth Dixon (Lab) 109. Turnout: 19.35% 

Workington, Salterbeck, three seats - Denise Rollo (Lab) 255; Barbara Cannon (Lab) 234; Ellie Wood (Lab) 226. Turnout: 16.92% 

Workington, St Johns, six seats – Patricia Poole (Ind) 664; Sue Fryer (Lab) 564; Michael Heaslip (Lab) 543; Mike Rollo (Lab) 512; David Tennyson (Lab) 496; Susan Martin (484). Turnout: 26.00% 

Workington, St Michaels, four seats – Mary Bainbridge (Lab) 390; Allan Hodgson (Lab) 365; David Farrar (Lab) 359; Bernadette Jones (Lab) 348. Turnout 22.43%.  

Workington, Stainburn, two seats – Mark Fryer (Lab) 210; Jacqueline Kirkbride (Cons) 199. Turnout: 31.05% 

Workington, Westfield, three seats - Sean Melton (Lab) 239; Kate Schofield (Lab) 227; Neil Schofield (Lab) 215. Turnout: 16.76%
