Cumberland Council would like to update residents and businesses of scheduled evening highway improvement works on Botchergate , Carlisle between Close Street and Portland Place.

The resurfacing work comprises of a carriageway inlay which will improve the road's durability and quality, replace ironwork for future maintenance accessibility, and renew line markings.

These works are scheduled to commence on Thursday 22 February until Tuesday 5 March 2024, for a duration of nine nights, weather permitting (excluding weekends). Works will be taking place between 6pm and 1am.

To enable the council to complete works safely, it will be necessary to close the road from Botchergate between Close Street to Portland Place, Carlisle, each evening, with a full diversion route being put in place.

The council has scheduled these works at this time to mitigate further disruptions, given the current closure of Devonshire Street for the Carlisle Place Project.

If residents or businesses require access to their property, the council kindly request that this be discussed with the Traffic Marshal who will be on site during the works, please be aware that there might be some delays accessing properties.

Access will be maintained for emergency services during the works.

Cumberland Council wishes to thank the community for their continued support and patience while they improve your road network and apologise for any inconvenience.
