Cumberland Council is reminding residents that Carlisle Library will be temporarily closed from Monday 3 November until mid-December as part of ongoing refurbishment works.
To allow for essential construction on the first floor, the library will be closed from the end of the day on Saturday 1 November. During this period, staff will be preparing the space for the next stage of improvements that will help create a modern, welcoming learning and community hub. This short closure marks the halfway point of a major upgrade to the building.
During the closure, a limited reception service will be available for essential requests, and the library service as it has been since the works started, will reopen in mid-December.
Work to date has concentrated on the second and third floors, with upcoming efforts set to transform the first floor through structural and infrastructure improvements.
Service changes during the closure
From Monday 3 November, Carlisle Library will be closed. A very limited reception service, accessed via level 3, will be available for:
- Hearing aid batteries
- Parking discs
- Blue badge forms
- Book requests and returns
(Please note: browsing, PC access, and bus pass services will not be available during this time.)
In December, a temporary library service will reopen on the second and third floors of the current building, which can be accessed via Level 3 of The Lanes car park.
