Changes to Carlisle Town Deal Board

A new Chair and Vice Chair have been appointed to lead the Carlisle Town Deal Board.


Carlisle was selected by Government to have a Town Deal in 2020, and the Town Deal Board was established and successfully secured £19.7m of funding in 2021 to deliver six transformative projects:


•    Start with the Park.
•    Lighting Up Carlisle.
•    Carlisle Business Exchange Centre.
•    Digital and Community Learning Hub.
•    Southern Gateway.
•    Project Tullie.


After the very successful tenure of Emma Porter as Carlisle Town Deal Board Chair, Cumberland Council has appointed David Wright, Land Director for Gleesons as the new Carlisle Town Deal Board Chair. He said:

“It’s an honour to be appointed Chairman of the Carlisle Town Deal Board. I look forward to working with partners to drive forward the City’s Investment Plan, delivering tangible benefits and a vibrant future for Carlisle and Cumbria"


Tracey Slaven, Chief Transformation Officer at the University of Cumbria has been appointed as Vice Chair. She said:


“I’m honoured to join the Carlisle Town Deal Board at such a transformative time for our city. The University of Cumbria’s Citadel development will be located in the centre of the regeneration of Carlisle’s historic heart. I’m looking forward to seeing tangible progress as we connect Town Deal projects and other initiatives that will unlock long-term opportunities for our community, economy, and future generations.”


The Carlisle Town Deal Board meets on a quarterly basis and its existing members come from a broad range of specialisms, representing business, education, housing, skills and employment and economy at national, regional, and local levels.


All the partners on the Town Deal Board are passionate and committed to improving the city of Carlisle for the future. To fully represent the city and our residents, it is essential that our board membership has a wide range of skills and is diverse to truly represent the people of Carlisle.
