Cumberland Council is encouraging residents to complete its Residents' Survey and help it plan council services for the coming years.

Thousands of randomly selected households will shortly receive the survey by post, aimed at understanding what matters most to local communities and their opinions on council services. Anyone in the household who is over 18 can complete the survey.

Formed in 2023, the council delivers a wide range of services – from highways and waste collection to adult social care and public health. It is the first time the council has carried out such a statistically significant survey of residents across the whole of Cumberland.

Cllr Lisa Hinton, Deputy Leader and Adult Social Care Portfolio Holder, said:
“We’re committed to listening to our residents. This survey is a vital opportunity for people to tell us what’s working, what needs improving, and where we should focus our efforts. We need as many people as possible to complete the survey so that all opinions and views are considered. If you get sent a survey, please do take the time to complete it.”

The survey can be completed online, or by filling in the paper copy and using the pre-paid envelope provided.

The survey is being conducted by independent researchers M·E·L Research Ltd, accredited by the Market Research Society. All responses are anonymous and securely handled in line with data protection laws.

A £1 donation by M·E·L to the Chairman of the Council’s charity, the Alzheimer’s Society, will be made for every response received beyond the first 1,000.

More details on the survey can be found online.
