As the chill of winter approaches, Cumberland Council is rolling out its proactive ‘Winter Ready’ campaign, a one-stop hub of support, advice, and resources to help residents and businesses across the region prepare for the colder months ahead.
From frosty roads to flu season, the campaign is packed with practical tips and essential updates to help everyone stay safe, warm, and well this winter. Whether you're checking your car’s winter kit, planning for potential flooding, or looking for the latest health guidance, Cumberland Council has it covered.
The dedicated ‘Winter Ready’ webpages have been refreshed and expanded from previous years. New handy tabs now include advice for hot and sunny conditions and stormy weather, making it easier than ever to stay informed about seasonal changes and what to do as winter approaches, all in one easy-to-access place.
This year’s campaign includes a vibrant programme of social media activity to keep communities informed and engaged. Highlights include:
- Your health in Winter Weather – Up-to-date guidance and support to help you stay protected.
- Emergency Planning – Advice on flood preparedness and property risk checks.
- Winter Travel – Safety tips, weather alerts, and vehicle readiness checks.
- Cost of Living Support – Practical help with household expenses and where to find assistance.
Councillor Denise Rollo, Executive Member for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, said:
"We know how unpredictable winter can be here in Cumberland, but with a little preparation, we can face it head-on. I’s all about being ready and taking smart steps now to avoid bigger problems later. And rest assured, Cumberland Council is prepared and ready to respond!"
Councillor Justin McDermott, Executive Member for Public Health and Communities, added:
“Being ‘Winter Ready’ is about being prepared and looking after each other. This campaign makes sure our communities have easy access to the right information they need to stay well this winter. Whether it’s the flu jab or the COVID-19 booster for our most vulnerable residents, keeping up to date with your vaccinations is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself and those around you.”
“As the weather gets colder and the nights draw in, it's important to look after our mental health too. A range of support is available, and I encourage anyone who is struggling to reach out."
