Cumberland Council is pleased to announce its support in ‘The Big Switch Off’ event on Monday 28 April, in Crow Park Keswick.
This collaborative initiative led by Friends of the Lake District, The National Trust, Keswick Town Council, Keswick Tourism Association and the Cockermouth Astronomical Society, aims to showcase the beauty of the night sky while promoting electricity conservation.
The Big Switch Off will commence from 9.30pm until approximately midnight. Cumberland Council, along with partners, are encouraging Keswick’s residents and businesses to join in and participate in the event by turning off their lights, providing an opportunity to take part in stargazing.
Approximately 70 streetlights will be switched off overnight in the areas of Lake Road, Hope Park, Crow Park, The Headlands, and Lake Road car park.
The Big Switch Off will affect residents of The Heads, The Headlands, Elliot Park, and users of Lake Road car park. For any enquiries, please visit the Cumberland Council website or contact Cumberland Council’s Highways Hotline on 0300 373 3736.
To help inform road users, the council will also be displaying temporary signage in the area ahead of the event.
