Highways sign

Cumberland Council will begin essential carriageway resurfacing on two sections of the A591 starting Monday 24 November. These works are part of the councils ongoing commitment to maintain and improve the local highway network.

To ensure safety for both the workforce and the public, the resurfacing will take place under a full road closure, with signed diversion routes in place throughout.

The project will be delivered in two phases:

  • A591 – Skiddaw Service Station, Bassenthwaite – Monday 24 November to Tuesday 2 December.
  • A591 Millbeck – Wednesday 3 December to Friday 12 December

The works are expected to last for up to three weeks, subject to weather and site conditions.

Access arrangements:

  • No vehicular access within work areas during working hours (7.30am–7.00pm).
  • Emergency services, pedestrians, and dismounted cyclists will have access at all times.
  • Resident access will be restricted during working hours, but traffic marshals will assist where possible.
  • Refuse collections will continue when safe to do so.
