May Bank Holiday Arrangements

Bank Holiday

On the build up to the bank holiday on Monday 26 May, Cumberland Council is reminding residents how to access its services.

Some offices - including Carlisle’s Civic Centre and Cumbria House, Allerdale House in Workington, and Market Hall in Whitehaven - will be closed on Monday 26 May. Online services will be available at www.cumberland.gov.uk

The main customer number (0300 373 3730) will close at 4.30pm on Friday 23 May and will reopen following the bank holiday on Tuesday 27 May at 9am. There will be a recorded message advising of the closure period and out of hours contact numbers for Highways, Homelessness, and Adults and Children’s Social Care, should anyone be calling in an emergency.

Other opening times, out of hours arrangements, and relevant information, is as follows:

Household waste and recycling collections

Changes are coming to waste and recycling collections in the former Allerdale area starting the week of 26 May 2025.

Please check your updated collections at www.cumberland.gov.uk/waste/binday as your first waste collection may be the week after, or for a small number of residents, you may see changes to your usual collection days.

There will be no changes to refuse and recycling collections for those in other areas. If you have a scheduled collection on Monday 26 May, it will take place as normal.

Household Waste Recycling Centres will be open as usual.
