An opportunity to have a say on how land in the Cumberland area can be developed in the future is now available.
Cumberland Council is inviting comments on the first stage of a new Cumberland Local Plan. The Issues and Options consultation is a chance to tell the council about any of planning issues and opportunities in the Cumberland area.
They are also welcoming ideas regarding how planning policy might address them and have prepared two documents.
The main Issues and Options consultation document has a comprehensive set of detailed questions.
The Summary Issues and Options document contains the same topics as the Main document but asks more general questions about each.
Cllr Bob Kelly, Executive Member for Policy and Regulatory Services, said:
“This the start of the process of creating a Local Plan for Cumberland. It will help co-ordinate and map how the area will grow in the future.
“It’s important that our communities play a part in the development of the plan. Our consultation is an opportunity for anyone with an interest to tell us what they think about planning issues in their area.”
The responses to the public consultation will help develop the production of the draft Cumberland Local Plan.
The council is holding drop-in events across Cumberland, with the opportunity to speak to council officers and ask questions.

Brampton Community Centre: Friday 12 September, 12.30pm - 6.30pm.
Carlisle The Lanes (East Tower Lane): Thursday 11 September, 9.30am - 4.30pm and Friday 17 October, 9.30am - 4.30pm.
Cleator Moor Civic Hall: Tuesday 16 September, 9am - 12pm.
Cockermouth Library: Thursday 25 September, 10.30am - 3.30pm.
Dalston Victory Hall: Tuesday 30 September, 1.30pm - 7pm.
Egremont Market Hall: Tuesday 23 September, 10am - 4pm.
Frizington Library: Monday 20 October, 2.15pm - 4.45pm.
Longtown Library: Monday 6 October, 1.30pm - 4.30pm.
Maryport Town Hall: Thursday 2 October 9.30am - 4.30pm.
Millom Tin Chapel: Wednesday 8 October, 10am - 3pm.
Silloth Library: Wednesday 22 October, 11am - 3pm.
Whitehaven United Reform Church: Thursday 16 October 10.30am - 4.30pm.
Wigton Market Hall: Monday 13 October, 9.30am - 4.30pm.
Workington Carnegie Theatre: Thursday 18 September, 9.30am - 4pm.

Consultation on the Issues and Options for the Cumberland Local Plan will run between Monday 1 September and Friday 31 October 2025.
