Cumberland Council is encouraging young people aged 14 to 24 to take part in a rewarding volunteer opportunity this summer through the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge.
As part of this year’s “Story Garden” themed challenge, Cumberland Libraries are looking for enthusiastic Summer Reading Challenge Volunteers to become Reading Champions, inspiring children aged 4 to 12 to keep reading during the school holidays.
This is a fantastic chance for young volunteers to:
- Be part of a friendly, supportive team
- Build confidence and communication skills
- Gain experience working with children and delivering activities
- Support their Duke of Edinburgh Award or similar achievements through logged volunteer hours
Volunteers will help talk to children about the books they’ve read, assist with activities both in person and online, and contribute to the vibrant summer atmosphere in our libraries. Full training will be provided before the challenge begins, and hours will be recorded throughout the programme.
