Wigton town centre set for a summer sparkle as deep clean gets underway

Wigton deep clean

Wigton town centre is about to get freshened up as Cumberland Council will be delivering a deep clean starting Monday 2 June, expected to last around two weeks.

This is part of Cumberland Council’s continued commitment to creating cleaner, more inviting spaces for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.

The work will focus on key routes through the town, including:

  • King Street (B5302) – from Market Street car park to Union Lane
  • High Street (B5305) – from King Street to Croft Court

Using specialist equipment, the teams will be tackling stubborn dirt, grime, and chewing gum to help restore the full potential of these busy pedestrian areas. With high-powered jet washers and mechanical sweepers, the town centre is set for a much-deserved refresh.

To keep disruption to a minimum, cleaning will be carried out in well-managed sections, supported by traffic management measures where needed. Pedestrian safety is a top priority, and extra care will be taken when operating near shopfronts.

The team will also be inspecting each cleaned section to ensure all areas are left neat and tidy before moving on. Some water spray is unavoidable during jet washing, but the council teams will work carefully to avoid unnecessary mess and inconvenience.

Cumberland Council is proud to be investing in the vibrancy and upkeep of Wigton’s town centre—helping it look its best for the summer months and beyond.
