Race organisers, A.S.O, have today (Thursday 22 October) revealed the full routes for the 2027 Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.

The 2027 Grand Départ will begin in Edinburgh before finishing its opening stage in Carlisle on Friday 2 July.

Stage Two will start in Keswick on Saturday 3 July before travelling through the Lake District and Lancashire to Liverpool.

To coincide with the announcement, Cumberland Council has launched the start of their community engagement programme.

Following the appointment of a Residents and Business Engagement Co-Ordinator, the first series of awareness events have been put in place. These will be held at the following locations:

Carlisle
• Assembly Rooms, Old Town Hall: Friday 13 November, 2pm - 6pm.

• Botcherby Community Centre, Victoria Road: Wednesday 2 December, 11am - 3pm.

Keswick
• Keswick Rugby Club, Crow Park Road: Wednesday 25 November, 4pm - 8pm.

Leader of Cumberland Council, Cllr Mark Fryer, said:

“In July 2027, Cumberland will play a major role in one of the world’s most recognised sporting events as the Tour de France Grand Départ comes to Britain.

“Communities will experience the Tour de France over two days marking a significant moment for the area, bringing riders, teams, spectators and international attention.

“We want residents and businesses to have opportunities to understand what is happening, ask questions, identify individual or community requirements and receive information as plans are confirmed.

“Resident and Business Engagement Drop-in Sessions will be held in November and December 2026 in Carlisle and Keswick.

“This is an opportunity to learn more about the Grand Départ, ask questions and meet the team. As we get closer to the event, further engagement events will be held. Keep an eye on our Tour de France website for updates.”

As part of its role as host authority to Stages 1 and 2 of the Grand Départ GB 2027 Tour de France, Cumberland Council will also be supporting the delivery of the national Tour de France JOY programme, which is designed to achieve socio-economic impact and legacy benefits from hosting the race.

A community events guide has also been produced for anyone interested in getting involved. Information is available at www.cumberland.gov.uk/TourdeFrance

Today’s announcement marks the next step towards the historic 2027 Grands Départs, as Britain becomes the first country outside of France to host the start of the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift in the same year.

Paul Bush, Managing Director, Grand Départ GB 2027, said:

“To have both the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift starting in Britain next summer is extraordinary, and a historic moment. These routes showcase what a spectacular stage Scotland, England and Wales will provide.”

Britain's role in the 2027 races was showcased during today's official presentation at the Palais des Congrès in Paris.

The Grands Départs will see the Tour de France make only its fifth visit to Britain and begin its three-week odyssey in Edinburgh on Friday 2 July, with three stages through Scotland, north-west England and Wales, before a route that will bend towards the sky in Morvan and the Alps before leading the riders to Mende and onto the decisive showdown in the Pyrenees.

Tickets for the Tour de France opening ceremony and presentation of the riders event at Edinburgh Castle, on Wednesday 30 June, go on pre-sale at midday tomorrow (Friday 23 October), with general sale beginning a week later on 30 October. To find out more, please click here.
